Pop music has been popular since the 19th century but today it seems to be les appealing to teenagers who think bands like S Club 7 and Britney Spears to be more or less cheesy.

Pop music has memorable melodies and repeated sections with a regular verse and then chorus.
Pop emerged in the early '60s, when the teen idol craze had begun to die down, and a lighter, smoother (but still similar) alternative to rock was needed. But pop didn't really rock! It didn't have the energy and attitudes of rock music and was more about song writing.
